Will TikTok Really Get Banned? What Does That Mean for America?

There’s been a lot of rumors going around over the past two months that TikTok (a harmless dancing / lip syncing app) will be banned from the United States.

Well, what does that mean for us? Brands ? Influencers? Why is this happening in the first place?

In attempt to protect American’s digital privacy & other potential breeches that could take place, the app has already been forbidden to be used by any official working in the federal government. The Trump Administration plans on making this completely illegal, issuing an executive order & declaring all uses of “TikTok” to be a “National Security Threat” under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, virtually cutting all ties with the app, it’s Chinese owned parent company ByteDance, and all current affiliations to all American businesses.

Kevin Mayer, the newest CEO of TikTok, and it’s other constituents have denied all allegations regarding the perversion or misuse of “user data” and its terms & conditions specifically & coherently state what the company does with sed data.

One thing I fail to understand is how “privacy” is still relevant in 2020? Forget national security threats, I mean let’s just talk about this concept once known to be “privacy”.

Privacy is, and has been dead for years, even decades. Social media & the internet itself have access & data from its users so far beyond comprehension, it would terrify you.

Location, IP addresses, access to your microphone, front & back camera, mobile device settings, your photos & videos, recent browser history, cookies, passwords, deleted cookies, anything you can fucking think of, social media has at its finger tips.

The craziest part is this. This ISN’T new. Like, at all. Could recent political outrages, “cancel culture” have an enormous effect on this decision? Maybe? Is TikTok being 100% honest about their intentions, or are they relentlessly feeding precious data to Chinese government? We have absolutely zero clue. But we do know this..

The internet is the internet, and nobody who chooses to use it is safe. Before we enter Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, you pick your poison — we all make the conscious & self aware decision that we are in fact entering our personal data into a larger / or even foreign company’s database & product.

Nobody put a gun to your head & demanded you download TikTok & Renegade for you the sake of your life. Of course not. We all make the conscious decision to use these apps & with that being said, we shall all suffer any potential consequences.

On a brighter side, Social apps can be a lot of fun, if used properly. Apps like TikTok have been the flame that’s ignited viral challenges, influencers careers, business partnerships & more that positively help not just our economy, but the health & well being of our nation.

Love or hate TikTok, or the entire internet itself. In my opinion, there’s no escaping “Invasion of privacy” or any aspects of social media that focus us into abiding by sets of rules we don’t willingly download & sign up for.

But until we reach an official decision, keep on dancing guys 🕺🏽

Thank you for reading my article ! I appreciate you so much <3
