Hey everyone ! Welcome to Part 3, the last segment of SCOP3: Music Industry & series “SCOP3” where I pick 3 businesses from different industries & give my scope (or scop3) on their brand, along with a few ideas I have in mind.

This week’s scope will be the last label of this music industry segment Quality Control Music. Now let’s dive into this!

Quality Control have dominated 2020

My favorite record label would have to be Quality Control Music, their brand, music, character, everything about QCis on point. CEO of Quality Control Music Pierre “Pee” Thomas, or most refer to him as just “Pee”, along with “Coach K” over the last decade have built one of the most legendary record labels known to Atlanta, and the entire Hip-Hop scene. Unfortunately, the company experienced a fatal loss in one of their most hidden talents Lil Marlo was shot and killed in a violent shooting on a highway, just outside inner city Atlanta in early June. Lil Marlo and QC rapper Lil Baby were extremely close friends for years, and as the whole company shown their condolences it didn’t stop them from moving forward in his name. Lil Baby’s latest studio album My Turn” is now 2X Platinum and highest selling & streaming album of 2020, featuring one of his latest and biggest records “The Bigger Picture” a song dedicated to stopping police brutality, systemic racism & politics.

Could “Quality Films” Create An OTT Network?

Early April, Quality Control announced their latest (and highly anticipated) venture, “Quality Films” a subsidiary company under Quality Control showcasing mini docu-series, short films, and an overall layer on top of the massive empire & IP they’ve built over the last decade.

It’s all about industry disruption nowadays, if you’re gonna come — come HARD and own the industry you’re in whether it’s film, entertainment, music, etc. Quality Films is by no means a bad idea, and they certainly have many projects in the works, a lot featuring their own artists like City Girls, Lil Baby, etc. I think QC should consider turning into an entire network and host shows, mini docu-series and more under the umbrella of “QC Network”. If QC started an OTT / Netflix like umbrella to host, produce & license other film companies to budget their films, in an urban culture / 2020 environment, they could deploy serious damage to the entertainment / streaming industry.

People are streaming like never before, OTT companies like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime have all had tremendous growth amid the pandemic as consumers are quarantined, and working remotely. QC has the ability creatively and culturally to create their own network and become a potential threat to the OTT & streaming market as we know it.

Thank you so much for engaging with this SCOP3 series, I’ve really enjoyed this one particularly (as it’s my industry) the most. Please be on the look in the next few days as I embark on SCOP3 — Advertising Industry , where I’ll be picking three dominating agencies killing the game right now, and what opportunities I see them embodying. THANK YOU.
